PARALYMPICS 2024: Thrower Hermanus Blom and swimmer Alani Ferreira break African records

JOHANNESBURG - Team South Africa collected 2 African records on Saturday at the Paris Paralympic Games.
Hermanus Blom set a new African record in the Men’s Shotput F12 with a throw of 13.16m.
He finished 7th in the finals. F12 is for field athletes with a visual impairment. These throwers have a moderate visual impairment.
He was named Gauteng Senior Sportsman of the Year in South Africa in 2014 and 2015. In 2014 he also won the Gauteng Overall Sportsman of the Year award.
The second African record is by swimmer Alani Ferreira in the S13 400m freestyle heats and she secured a spot in the finals.
Ferreira competes in the SB12 category for swimmers with a visual impairment who have a restricted field of view. Some cannot see the black line on the bottom of the pool but can see the end of the lane from one metre away.
Christian Sadie finished first in his heat in the men's 200m medley SM7 and has advanced to the finals with swimmer Danika Vyncke finishing 5th in Heat 1 of the 400m freestyle S13 with a time of 5:10.91 missing out on the finals.
