With over R50m, Oppenheimers top donations to political parties
The elections may have long passed but the Oppenheimer family is still assisting political parties with millions in funding.

JOHANNESBURG - The billionaire Oppenheimer family has donated a whopping R51 million to four different political parties between April and June this year, cementing its status as the biggest political funder in the country.
The figure was published by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) as part of an official breakdown of donations declared by political parties in the first quarter of the 2024 / 2025 financial year.
Since the Political Funding Act was enacted in April 2021, political parties must declare donations over R100,000.
The elections may have passed, but the Oppenheimer family still assists political parties with millions in funding.

Their R51 million donations were divided between the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), Democratic Alliance (DA), Build One South Africa (BOSA) and ActionSA.
Durban-born billionaire Martin Moshal has also not slowed down with donations, dividing his R26,5 million between BOSA, ActionSA and IFP.
Network giant, MTN donated over R500,000 each to the African National Congress and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
MTN's donations were in the form of sim cards, mobile data and wifi routers.
