CAPE TOWN - Less talk, more action, that is the sentiment of Western Cape Premier Alan Winde who joined other stakeholders in Belhar on Friday, to sign a cooperation agreement between the South African Police Service and provincial law enforcement agencies.

The agreement endorsed by President Cyril Ramaphosa aims to enhance collaboration between police and law enforcement to address safety and security concerns in the province.

Winde said it's significant that the agreement is being signed at the Cape Flats, where residents are caught in the grip of gang violence.

"It is also very meaningful that we are having this on the Cape Flats because it is this part of the province that feels crime the most, and we need to be deploying to where it is the most effective."

Winde said that the time for talking is over.

"Our government needs to join up as we are on a national level, we need to join up in making sure that we stand together to fight crime."

RAMAPHOSA HAILS COOPERATION AGREEMENT

Ramaphosa has described the agreement as a historic move.

He said the agreement to bring together all spheres of governance and other stakeholders to fight crime will enhance the process of bringing criminals to book.

"We just want to give clear notice to the criminals that we are now coming after you. We as the Government of National Unity have made crime a top priority," Ramaphosa said.

Ramaphosa also made a commitment to work more closely with community-based organisations and civil society structures in fighting crime.
