JOHANNESBURG - After being a member of three political parties in under a year, Colleen Makhubele said she had found a home in the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

The former Congress of the People (COPE) and South African Rainbow Alliance (SARA) member announced on Thursday that she was joining Jacob Zuma's political organisation.

Her recent party, SARA, had a disappointing performance in the recent general elections, failing to win a single seat nationally and in the two provinces it was contesting.

Makhubele said she was fired by COPE, and SARA's poor electoral results meant she had to look elsewhere to continue her goal of improving the country.

"Having met with President Zuma and the leadership of the MK Party over the past three months, I was convinced that MK Party is the party that has the intent to consolidate, unite African leaders, bring [together] all these progressive forces, black parties with the sole mandate to change the trajectory of where our country is going."
