PARALYMPICS 2024: SA archer Anderson sets up eliminator with Turkey's Aydin

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's para-archer Shaun Anderson finished 9th on Thursday in the Men’s W1 archery hitting a season-best of 639 points.
Individual competitions at the Paralympics begin with the ranking round, where each of the 13 archers shoots 72 arrows to determine their ranking for the single-elimination bracket.
Anderson - who ranks 9th - will face Turkey’s Caner Yigit Aydin who ranks 8th in the elimination round come 1st September in Paris.
The South African finished 9th in the Individual W1 at the Tokyo Games; at the Rio Games, he finished 17th in the Individual Compound Open.
The difference between the two classifications is that in the Compound Open, he competed with archers with little strength in their arms, namely archers who shoot from a sitting position at a distance of 50m, at an 80cm five-ring target made up of the 10-6 point bands.
In his current classification, the W1 is for quadriplegic archers with an impairment in the lower limbs, trunk, and one arm, and shoot from 50m at a 10-band 80cm target.
