CAPE TOWN - A former anti-gang unit police officer on trial along with alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack says he was coerced into making a statement about his involvement in the case with a promise of being released on bail.
The former cop faces charges of corruption for allegedly giving Modack information about the anti-gang unit's operations.
Modack and 14 others face 122 charges for various crimes, including murder, extortion, money laundering and fraud.
On Thursday, the court put the spotlight on co-accused Ashley Tabisher, a former anti-gang unit member accused of having a corrupt relationship with Modack.

Tabisher was allegedly paid by Modack for information on anti-gang unit raids and investigations related to gang activities in Cape Town.
After his arrest in 2021, Tabisher said police coerced him into making a warning statement with the promise of being released on bail.
Judge Robert Henney postponed proceedings for the state to prove if Tabisher's statement is admissible in court.
The matter will be back in court on Monday.
