JOHANNESBURG - Civic organisation Defend Our Democracy will picket outside the South African Revenue Service (SARS)’s headquarters in Tshwane to rally behind whistleblowers.
They said this hasd been fuelled by the recent assassination attempt of Advocate Coreth Naude, who was shot and wounded in Durban in July.
Naude is part of a team investigating a case involving R37 million in unpaid taxes linked to controversial businesswoman, Shauwn Mkhize.
Defend Our Democracy's Zaakirah Vadi said they wanted to bring awareness to the risks faced by whistleblowers and anti-corruption fighters.
“There were two others who were, as media reports said, Bosasa and Gupta liquidators, but recent reports suggest that they were investigating via SARS the same case as Adv Coreth Naude was on."
