JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Tshwane is yet to receive feedback from a meeting with the African National Congress (ANC).

The parties met in a bid to preserve stability in the municipality.

Instead, ANC councillors in Tshwane are moving ahead with a motion of no confidence to remove Mayor Cilliers Brink from office.

ActionSA, however, was noticeably absent at a media briefing held by the governing coalition in Tshwane, who all re-affirmed their support for Brink.

The ANC and DA are in coalition governments nationally and in KwaZulu-Natal.

DA councillor and Tshwane mayor, Brink, said that senior leaders of both parties had met to discuss the possibility of a stability agreement.

Brink said such an agreement would have seen both parties agreeing to not bring a motion of no confidence against each other in the municipalities they governed across the country.

"I want to emphatically say this: there has been no discussion about ending this coalition and bringing in somebody else into this coalition. Preserving this coalition remains the number one priority and that is why I have pled with the leadership of ActionSA to make it clear they won’t support a motion of no confidence and they will make every effort as we have done, to preserve the existing coalition."

The ANC in Tshwane said it was still engaged in meetings with its provincial leadership and would make an announcement soon on its next steps.
