JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA's national leadership says the party has not left the governing coalition in Tshwane.

This is despite the party's councillors in the capital city telling the media on Thursday they were no longer part of the Democratic Alliance (DA)-led coalition, and would be voting with the African National Congress (ANC) to remove Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink

The ANC has since announced it will temporarily withdraw its motion of no confidence against Brink following a court challenge by Brink.

The caucus leader of ActionSA in Tshwane, Jackie Mathabathe, said the party was leaving the multiparty coalition governing the capital city.

"Our party has made a decision, our structures have made a decision. They told us to get out of the marriage with the DA. This marriage for us has been very brutal, our focus as ActionSA is nothing else but the people on the ground. We need to take services to the people on the ground. We have suffered a lot, our townships have suffered a lot," said Mathabathe.

However, ActionSA national chairperson Michael Beaumont said their regional leader jumped the gun.

Beaumont said the party is still in the process of reviewing its relationship with the DA in Tshwane.

He said only ActionSA's highest decision-making structure, which is the senate, will make a final decision on the matter.
