CAPE TOWN - Alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack's attorney will on Wednesday continue trying to punch holes in the State's case against his client.

Modack and 14 co-accused face 122 charges related to various crimes, including the murder of top cop, Charl Kinnear.

Modack previously told the court he was not guilty of Kinnear's murder and had proof that police were involved in the incident.

Defence attorney Bashier Sibda this week tried to show that Kinnear was colluding with Modack's rival, alleged underworld gang boss, Jerome "Donkie" Booysen.

At the time of his death, Kinnear, who was head of the anti-gang unit, was investigating Modack and had confiscated numerous firearms from him, while also arresting his wife.

Modack also paid millions for the firearms to be returned to someone he believed was Kinnear, when he was in fact being conned by a couple who have since fled the country.

Hawks officer, Edward du Plessis, who is one of the State's main witnesses, told the court that these factors gave Modack enough motive to have Kinnear murdered.

Sibda will continue presenting Modack's version to the court on Wednesday.
