DURBAN - Police in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) have raised concerns over a lack of space to jail undocumented foreign nationals.
This comes after 123 illegal migrants were nabbed during an operation in Durban on Monday morning.
The men and women in blue raided six buildings where they also found drugs and illegal ammunition.
Following what police have described as a successful operation, provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi raised concern that while police are making progress in cracking down on criminal elements in KZN, space is an issue in prisons.
“Our biggest problem especially when it comes to the undocumented person, we are running out space to lock them up. That is an unfortunate challenge that we have.”
Mkhwanazi said Tuesday’s operation was just one of many police have held in recent weeks.
He vowed that raids would continue as part of efforts to curb crime.
