TSHWANE - The case of identity theft involving the mother of controversial former Miss South Africa contestant, Chidimma Adetshina, is now in the hands of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Unit.
Last week, Parliament’s Home Affairs committee was informed of the escalation and the Hawks’ involvement in the probe. However, the unit responsible was only disclosed on Sunday.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks, held a media briefing in Tshwane on Sunday on progress made during the first quarter of this financial year.
Hawks director, Godfrey Lebeya, who provided a progress update, revealed that the unit would not make arrests before gathering sufficient evidence.
"Because when we approach a suspected person, what we shall be doing is to warn the person in terms of the Constitution, section 35, that you have the right to remain silent and the like. So based on that, it is always important that you investigate and complete your matter before you approach the suspect."
