TSHWANE - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng has rejected allegations that it sought assistance from the African National Congress (ANC) to retain control in the City of Tshwane.

It was reported earlier this week that the DA approached the ANC, hoping to work together to keep its position in Tshwane’s government.

DA Gauteng chairperson Solly Msimanga said the only thing his party requested from the ANC is to stabilise municipalities in the province.

“It was not to say save us here or save us there. No. It was to say how do we make sure that there is more stability. Therefore, we need help to make sure there is a stable government.”

The DA in the province said it is concerned with the stability of municipalities in the province amid ongoing changes in political leadership.

Msimanga said political instability has proven to have a direct impact on service delivery.

"We cannot continue to have municipalities across Gauteng that are unstable and where we continue to have motions of no confidence. Joburg for an example has had six mayors in a state of three years."
