SANTACO says document threatening to stop scholar transport in Masiphumelele is fake

CAPE TOWN - The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) said it's been inundated with enquiries about the alleged targeting of scholar transport vehicles in Masiphumelele, Fish Hoek.
 
A letter with the letterhead of a taxi association operating in that area has been circulating on social media.
 
It states that no learners above a certain age will be allowed to use private scholar transport vehicles from 1 September.
 
SANTACO's Mandla Hermanus said he's established that there is no truth to the fake document that has been doing the rounds.
 
"We can confirm that CATA [Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association] has contacted the primary association and it distances itself from the letter and its contents. 

"So, on the first of September, no private scholar transport vehicles will be stopped by that association and no learners will be forced to use taxis instead of private scholar transport."
 
Hermanus said a community meeting has been held this week to keep residents in the loop.

"That association has gone further to engage the community in Masiphumelele to explain the same that indeed on the first of September, it's going to be business as usual. 

"Private scholar transport vehicles will operate as per norm and no intimidation, and no stopping of vehicles is going to take place."
