CAPE TOWN - Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson has called for a national summit to combat the construction mafia.
Recent killings and unrest in KwaZulu-Natal have been linked to the scourge, and Macpherson says he's received a report from the Public Works and Infrastructure MEC Martin Meyer on how it's resurfaced.

Macpherson says the report reveals three murders and an assault at the Umkhomazi Water Project.
He's now called for an urgent meeting of all Public Works MECs and Ministers in the security cluster - to develop a response.
"This is simply unacceptable. We will never be able to attract additional infrastructure investment, and turn the country into a construction site, while this lawlessness continues."
