One-half of world-famous gay penguin couple dies in Sydney

World-famous same-sex penguin Sphen has passed away at the age of 11, the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium in Australia confirmed.

Sphen and his eight-year-old penguin partner Magic went viral in 2018 when they built a pebble together in the hope of raising chicks at their home at the aquarium.

They adopted and successfully raised two chicks in 2018 and 2020.

“Magic will now have to navigate the forthcoming mating season, so I wonder how that will play out.”
