DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal police said they had killed one suspect from a wanted gang and arrested five others.
The gang is linked to a series of criminal activities, including hijackings, robbery, and murders in the north of Durban and surrounding areas.
In recent weeks, a video of the group randomly shooting in the air at KwaMashu Hostel made the rounds on social media platforms.
The video of the gang members randomly firing shots in public in broad daylight raised concerns for many.
Police have since confirmed that the gang has now been apprehended.
Spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said: "On Friday last week, a suspect believed to be one of the gang members was shot and fatally wounded in a shootout with police in Inanda and was found in possession of a firearm. Police operations continued, and between Monday night and Tuesday morning, five more suspects were arrested along the Siyanda Main Road."
The suspects, aged between 24 and 43 years, appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court on Thursday and will return to court next week.
Police said the search for more suspects was underway.
