JOHANNESBURG - The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in Tshwane hopes the Democratic Alliance (DA)-led municipal government will finish its term, despite growing efforts to remove it from public office.

The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng announced earlier this week that it's waiting for instruction from Luthuli House on whether to reclaim the mayoral chains in the capital.

ActionSA, which forms part of the multi-party government in Tshwane, said it's also fed up with the DA and has described its relationship with the party as abusive.

Last week, the IFP supported the election of an ANC mayor in Joburg, despite being known as the DA's ally in the city council.

The IFP leader in Tshwane, Ziyanda Zwane, said the party’s national structure is yet to decide whether to support the ANC and ActionSA's bid to dethrone the DA in the metro.

"There is no decision currently regarding Tshwane that we will be voting otherwise because we have a coalition agreement that is intact," said Zwane.

But Zwane said the IFP is satisfied with the DA-led government in Tshwane.

"This government is effective. Although there a challenges, this government is effective. It can't be on the basis that it's failing to deliver," Zwane said.

The IFP is among the parties running the City of Tshwane with the DA since the 2021 local government elections.
