Big wig resigns 2 years after suspension amid probe into Deokaran's assassination: GP Health

JOHANNESBURG - Two years after her suspension amid a probe into the assassination of whistleblower Babita Deokaran, the Gauteng provincial government has confirmed that Gauteng Department of Health CFO Lerato Madyo has resigned.
Madyo was placed under paid suspension in 2022 as she faces 13 misconduct charges.
It’s understood Deokaran flagged concerns about suspicious payments at the Tembisa Hospital with Madyo, but she allegedly failed to sign off on a forensic audit into the matter.

Deokoran was later gunned down in her driveway.
The spokesperson for the Gauteng provincial government - Vuyo Mhaga - says Madyo has kept her full benefits pending the finalisation of the probe.
“Because ultimately, we must treat her as someone who is innocent until proven guilty. That’s why we are all waiting for it. If there is anyone untoward, we know the SIU [Special Investigating Unit] is able to get the money back or freeze some of the accounts.”
