Search for missing man with dementia: Help find Robert Schroeder

Robert Schroeder

Pippa Hudson spoke to Schroeder's sister, Caryn Tamari.

Listen to their conversation in the audio clip below.

A desperate family needs your help to find their missing loved one.

58-year-old Robert Schroeder suffers from early onset dementia.

Schroeder was last seen at the Louvain Music and Arts Festival on Sunday (11 August) in Herold just outside George.

All his belongings were still in his tent.

"...something he has attended a few times in the past...the organisers know him well...people saw him on Friday evening and Saturday. It appears the last time he was seen was on Sunday morning round about 11 o'clock by members of the farm and then it's as if he simply vanished."
 - Caryn Tamari, sister of Robert Schroeder

He was wearing dark tracksuit pants and a grey light jersey at the time of his disappearance.

According to Tamari, her brother is about 1,7m tall, weighs around 80kgs, has an unkempt beard and a definitive walk where he drags his feet.

"He is very well known on the streets of Cape Town. He is quite a character. He can look a little intimidating but he's a gentle soul. He lives alone and doesn't have a partner or children, but he has a big support of people around him who love him dearly."
 - Caryn Tamari, sister of Robert Schroeder
"When Robert served many years ago in the army, he had an accident and he was actually in a coma for two weeks and had head injuries. He recovered very nicely from that but recently when he had some check-ups they said that this early onset of dementia might have been caused and brought on by that accident...so it's pretty recent."
- Caryn Tamari, sister of Robert Schroeder
"It was something that he was worried about...I would say that he was nervous about it but it hadn't really gone full blown."
