JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party on Thursday announced the formation of its highest decision-making body, comprising eight officials and 45 additional members.

The structure, which has been named the national high command, is tasked with building and expanding the organisation ahead of the 2026 local government elections.

The body consists of the party’s president and his deputy, secretary-general and his deputy, national chairperson and his deputy, national organiser and the treasurer-general.

MK Party secretary-general Sifiso Maseko also announced the party’s top eight leadership.

“President remains President Jacob Zuma; deputy president remains Comrade John Hlophe. The secretary-general, Sifiso Maseko. Deputy secretary-general is comrade Nombuso Mkhize. National organiser is Floyd Shivambu. National chairperson is non-other than Nkosinathi Nhleko.”

Meanwhile, Shivambu again refused to disclose what influenced him to join the MK Party, he believes the organisation is well equipped to liberate oppressed South Africans.

“We are not in the business of trying to please each other’s egos here. We are in the business of building a revolutionary movement that is going to emancipate the black majority and Africans in particular - and we are unapologetic about that. That is what we stand for,” he said.

Shivambu left the Economic Freedom Fighters last week, claiming his departure from the organisation he founded 11 years ago was purely political and not personal.
