JOHANNESBURG - The legal team of corruption-accused former African National Congress (ANC) national spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, said there were "gaps" in the State’s case.

Between 2014 and 2016, Kodwa is accused of receiving kickbacks from former Enterprise Outsourcing Holdings (EOH) boss, Jehan Mackay, amounting to R1.7 million.

The State alleges Kodwa used his influence as ANC spokesperson at the time to direct government tenders towards the information technology business.

Kodwa and Mackay made a brief appearance at the Palm Ridge Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday, where they stand accused of two charges of corruption.

With the disclosure process over, Kodwa’s legal team said it now had an idea of the State’s case against their client.

Kodwa’s lawyer Zola Majavu said the State had turned over 1,300 pages of evidence it had against his client.

"We now know what the game plan is, we think we know but I remain respectful of my colleagues, on behalf of the State, but we are more determined to now go trial.”

However, before the case moves to trial, the court still has to deal with the application by accused number one, Mackay, to have all charges against him dropped due to insufficient evidence.

The case has been postponed to 10 September for a decision from the director of public prosecutions on Mackay’s application.
