Evidence presented in court by Edward du Plessis shows Modack allegedly used millions in extorted money, which he laundered through a front company, to pay some of the accused to commit crimes.
The State alleges Modack used the front company’s bank account to pay co-accused Zane Kilian to track slain top cop, Charl Kinnear, up to a day before his murder in September 2020.
Modack is also accused of plotting other murders, including the father of a Hawks officer, Nicholaas Heerschap, and tow-truck driver Richard Joseph, as well as the attempted murder of prominent Cape Town attorney, William Booth.
A self-confessed gunman and two other co-accused have already told the court they acted on Modack’s instruction to commit crimes.
