CAPE TOWN - A State witness in the trial of an alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, on Wednesday implicated three of the co-accused for being involved in the attempted murder of prominent Cape Town attorney, William Booth.
Modack and his 14 co-accused face 122 charges for various crimes, including the murder of top cop Charl Kinnear and the attempted murder of Booth.
The State witness – who can only be identified as "Mister D" – testified about how he was the driver for co-accused Riyaad Gesant during the attempt on Booth's life at his Higgovale home on 9 April 2020.
Mister D also implicated accused three - Ziyaad Poole - for organising the vehicle and temporary licence plates used in the shooting.
He told the court he went to fetch a bundle of R100 notes at Poole's residence following the incident – and was later paid R2,000 for being the driver.
Mister D says prior to the incident – he also overheard a phone call from accused four Toufiek Brown to Gesant giving the go-ahead for the hit on Booth.
All of the accused denied the charges against them, except Gesant who has entered into a plea deal with the State.
