JOHANNESBURG - Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink said that his government was not deterred by the African National Congress (ANC)'s attempts to reclaim governing power in the metro.

The ANC wants to reclaim the capital city after winning back total control over Ekurhuleni and the City of Joburg.

With ActionSA having supported the election of an ANC mayor in Johannesburg, there are suggestions the party might do the same in Tshwane.

While the Democratic Alliance (DA) has been running the City of Tshwane with ActionSA for over a year, the ANC is becoming more aggressive in its fight to regain lost ground in Gauteng metros.

Brink said that despite ActionSA now working with the ANC in Johannesburg, his government remained stable amid attempts to collapse it.

"ActionSA obviously made a decision which it thought was in the best interest of the people of Joburg. It's not for me to judge but I'm doing what’s in the best interest of the people of Tshwane and I certainly believe our current coalition can achieve significant things here."

Despite ActionSA occupying the deputy mayor position in Tshwane, the political party also wants to have control over the Speaker of council office.
