CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) said that its petition to stop Eskom's proposed 36% tariff increase is gathering steam with over 12,000 signatures.
The party said that it will be petitioning Parliament to hear its call for the proposed increase not to be approved by NERSA (National Energy Regulator of South Africa).
"As of today, over 12,000 South Africans have signed the da petition to parliament against the proposed 40% electricity tariff increase by Eskom. This is the start of an overwhelming response and demonstrates widespread public concern over the effect that the proposed tariff increases will have on household incomes, businesses, and the economy" said DA Energy and Electricity Spokesperson Kevin Mileham.
The DA's request for a National Assembly debate on the increase has also been granted by Speaker Thoko Didiza.
