JOHANNESBURG - Three Evaton primary school siblings who died earlier this week from suspected poisoning will be laid to rest on Sunday.

It’s understood that the pupils - in grades 3, 4, and 5 - arrived at school on Monday, presenting symptoms, including nausea and body aches.

They were then rushed to a local clinic by teachers, where they were declared dead on the scene.

On Sunday, family and friends in the community of Evaton, south of Johannesburg, will pay their final respects in a funeral service.

Tshepiso Tsotetsi in grade 3, Moeketsi Mokhatla in grade 4, and Rethabile Mokhatla in grade 5 died this week shortly after consuming pap, biscuits and milk for breakfast.

A police investigation is currently under way to ascertain the cause of the three siblings’ deaths. No arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, there is growing concern over the deaths of learners in the province.

Last week, in Tsakane, on the West Rand, a grade 8 learner died after she allegedly consumed rat poison.

In the same week, Greenside High School head boy Reza Saloojee’s body was recovered from the Vaal Dam after he drowned while attempting to retrieve a fishing toolbox.
