DURBAN - The African National Congress (ANC)’s national working committee will spend two days in some of its regions in KwaZulu-Natal to assess the state of its structures.
The working committee officials include party President Cyril Ramaphosa, party Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, and national chairperson Gwede Mantashe.
KwaZulu-Natal is one of the ANC’s strongholds, but the party was dealt a blow in the recent polls, losing the province and only obtaining 17% of the vote.
The party’s losses in the 2024 polls followed a huge decline in support in local municipalities back in 2021, as it lost several municipalities to the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
The ANC said it wants to evaluate the party's state at a local level to see what interventions are needed.
The party said it wants its structures to reconnect with the communities they serve.
This visit also comes as some of the regions are preparing to go to elective conferences.
Ramaphosa will on Sunday spend the day in the Moses Mabhida region, the second-biggest region of the party in the province, which faces huge service delivery challenges.
Meanwhile, Mbalula has been deployed to the eThekwini region, the ANC’s biggest region in the whole country.
