JOHANNESBURG - Former Johannesburg mayor and Al Jama-ah councillor Kabelo Gwamanda has been appointed as MMC for Community Development.
Gwamanda was appointed to the position by newly elected mayor and African National Congress (ANC) regional leader Dada Morero during a council sitting on Friday evening.
After his resignation, he mentioned that he had been working in the background of the mayoral office. He also vowed that his resignation as mayor would not end his political stint.
Morero, who was elected as mayor on Friday, announced his mayoral committee shortly after his election to the city’s highest office.
The Patriotic Alliance (PA)’s Kenny Kunene has returned as Transport MMC, while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will remain in the public safety portfolio.
“Development MMC is now Councillor Eunice Mgcina. Economic Development, Councillor Nomoya Mnisi. Environment and Infrastructure, Councillor Jack Sekwaila,” said Morero.
The African Independent Congress (AIC)’s Margaret Arnolds has resigned from the speaker position in the Johannesburg council after being appointed as Finance MMC.
Eyewitness News understands that ActionSA is set to occupy the speaker of council position after joining hands with the ANC to elect Morero to power.
