WC ANC disappointed by coalition changes in Theewaterskloof municipality
The DA, GOOD Party and the Socialist Revolutionary Workers Party this week took over the municipality, sharing the positions of mayor, speaker and public accounts chairperson.
CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape said it was disappointed by the coalition changes that took place in the Theewaterskloof Municipality.
The party said the Democratic Alliance (DA) and GOOD Party entered into a "grand coalition" rather than build a government of local unity (GLU) that is diverse and inclusive of all the parties in the Western Cape.
The DA, GOOD Party and the Socialist Revolutionary Workers Party this week took over the municipality, sharing the positions of mayor, speaker and public accounts chairperson.
The council had been under an ANC minority coalition government with the Patriotic Alliance, with the support of the GOOD Party until Wednesday.
ANC provincial spokesperson Khalid Sayed: "We believe that what happened in Theewarterskloof was driven by self-interests and factional politics in the DA, led by Helen Zille and Tertuis Simmers in particular. We also believe that the GOOD Party has sadly fallen prey to the DA's deceit."
