Two polar bears have fatally attacked a worker at a remote Arctic radar station in Canada's northern Nunavut territory, sparking an investigation into the rare and shocking incident.
Nasittuq Corporation, the employer of the unnamed victim, has announced that it is working with local authorities and regulatory agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The company also confirmed that other workers at the scene killed one of the bears.
"An attack by two polar bears has resulted in the loss of one of our valued employees," the firm said in a statement.
Although polar bear attacks on humans are rare, this marks at least the second deadly incident involving a polar bear since 2023.
"It's sad from the point of view of a human death and a polar bear death."
