Former Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Adetshina (23) received an invitation to participate in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant after she pulled out of the local contest after an uproar over her citizenship status.
Adetshina announced on 8 August that she was pulling out of the Miss SA contest, after the Department of Home Affairs launched an investigation into the contestant's citizenship. It was revealed that Adetshina's mother, of Mozambican descent, possibly committed identity fraud in 2001 to get her daughter citizenship when she was born.

Since Adetshina's withdrawal, she has been invited to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria, an invite she accepted.
Miss Universe Nigeria and Adetshina posted to social media to announce the news.
The law student said in the caption of her post: "I understand the responsibilities and expectations that come with this title and I am so excited to embark on this journey." The post has gone viral, with people expressing 'mixed feelings' in the comments section.
Some social media users feel that Adetshina should've waited for next year and 'let the dust' from Miss SA settle. Others think Adetshina's entry into the competition after all the finalists have been announced is 'unfair'.
