CAPE TOWN - It's been a week since a teenage girl's body was discovered on the premises of a Caledon school, and police are yet to make a breakthrough in their investigation.

Deveney Nel was reported missing by her mother last Wednesday.

Caledon police established a search party and later found the 16-year-old's body in a storeroom at Overberg High School.

According to a Rapport newspaper article, the grade 10 pupil had been stabbed.

The police's Andre Traut said that Nel's murder case was still under investigation and there were no new developments that police could share at this stage.

SAPS is appealing to the public to refrain from making unsubstantiated allegations that could endanger certain individuals.

Traut said that when the time was right, the police would disclose the progress that had been made.

Counselling has been provided to those affected by the grade 10 learner's murder.

This incident is one of a number of femicides making news headlines as the country marks Women's Month, a period that sees the spotlight shone on crimes against women and children.
