JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Johannesburg has met with its provincial and national leadership to plan for the election of the city's new mayor.
This comes after Kabelo Gwamanda's resignation from the metro's top office following the African National Congress (ANC)'s bid to return to the helm.
The ANC said it would put forward its regional chairperson, Dada Morero, who previously served in the position for just 25 days.

The DA in Joburg believes the ANC-Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) administration, with Gwamanda as its face, had done nothing to move the metro forward since his election in May 2023.
The party’s caucus leader, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, also said the election of Morero to the mayoral office did not inspire confidence that Johannesburg would have skilled leaders at its helm.
"We don’t foresee any changes with Dada Morero because he has been part of the mayoral committee."
The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA)'s CEO, Wayne Duvenage, has echoed these sentiments.
"He was part of the mayoral committee and he’s not a bad person as well, but does he have the ability to hold people to account?"
