JOHANNESBURG - City Power has urged customers with outstanding bills to settle their debt or face disconnection.
This follows a revenue collection drive in Randburg, in Johannesburg, on Thursday.
Nine defaulting accounts belonging to eight residential complexes were cut off.
The utility says the operation is part of a broader strategy to recover billions owed to it.
"It is really worrying that we find that in most of these complexes, the tenants actually pay the owners of the properties but the owners are not passing on this money to City Power," said spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
Earlier this week, the power utility confiscated over 15,000kg of electricity infrastructure at the Leratong Village informal settlement.
