KZN Premier Ntuli tables budget nearing R800m, bulk goes to institutional development

DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) premier Thami Ntuli has tabled almost R800 million for his office in the 2024/2025 financial period.
The budget also comes with a R2 million cut on the Zulu monarch’s previous budget.

On Tuesday, Ntuli presented the budget to the provincial legislature, outlining what the money would be used for.
This time around, the most funded programme was institutional development, which has been allocated R329,778,000.
Ntuli said this was aimed at improving service delivery.
"This programme comprises the following sub-programmes: Strategic Human Resources, Legal Services, Information Communications Technology, Communication Services, Special Programmes and Forensic Investigations and Integrity Management."
This was followed by policy and governance, with R227,642,000 and his administration got R226,733,000.
Parties in the government of provincial unity, the Democratic Alliance (DA), African National Congress (ANC), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and National Freedom Party (NFP) voted in support of the budget.
However, the Progressive Caucus, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party voted against it.
