JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) says it believes the odds will be in its favour when a special council meeting sits to vote in a new Joburg mayor.
This follows Kabelo Gwamanda's resignation from the highly sought-after job on Tuesday amid concerns about the deteriorating state of the metro.
Johannesburg Finance MMC Dada Morero is now tipped for a promotion as the ANC has thrown his name in the hat to take over as mayor.
Morero has had his eye on the mayoral job for some time now.
Over the past few weeks, the ANC has roped in other parties to support the move to remove caretaker mayor Gwamanda and replace him with Morero.

This included talks with an unlikely coalition partner, ActionSA, which has previously been brutally critical of the ANC.
ANC Joburg regional secretary, Sasabona Manganye, said the numbers looked good.
"As soon as we conclude discussions with ActionSA, we will be a coalition that is constituted of 191 councillors. The minorities have also indicated that UIM will be joining us, which will take us to 192," said Manganye.
The Joburg Council has a total of 270 seats.
