JOHANNESBURG - Hundreds of people have made their way to OR Tambo International Airport to welcome home the country’s Olympians.

A reception, hosted by Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie, will welcome the athletes at OR Tambo International Airport.

Gold medalist Tatjana Smith and the mens relay team that won a silver medal are amongst our athletes who competed at the Paris Olympic Games that arrive on Tuesday morning.

Smith, who won two of the country's six medals is expected to receive the biggest cheer, with many of the posters and banners around the terminal have her name and face emblazoned on them.

Over the last hour, the crowd at the arrivals terminal awaiting the Olympians has increased vastly.

Hundreds of learners from Curro Hazeldean, where relay silver medalist Bayanda Walaza is a matric pupil, have filled the airport and joined the well-wishers and supporters who had already gathered in singing and cheering for the athletes.

Walaza’s school mates and training partners say it is a day that they could not miss and have called him an inspiration for the rest of the school.

The flight from Paris has disembarked and the athletes are expected to appear shortly.
