Encouraging signs from 6th administration related to oversight, executive performance - Maluleke

CAPE TOWN - Auditor-General (AG) Tsakani Maluleke said there were encouraging signs from the previous administration in relation to oversight and executive performance.
Maluleke said she expected this to continue in the seventh administration under the Government of National Unity (GNU).

Maluleke was briefing the Parliamentary Press Gallery Association on Monday about the last five years as the AG.
"There are few things we saw that are starting to become encouraging from the sixth administration, such as the matter around what happens with disclaimer audit opinions. There’s been an improvement in disclaimers because of actions taken by provincial governments."
But she said the public sector still needed more competent people.
"Competence, ethical conduct, the space to do their work, and them being held accountable at accounting officer level [are] very critical."
