JOHANNESBURG - Al-Jama-ah leader Ganief Hendricks believes Joburg’s next mayor will not match what he describes as Kabelo Gwamanda’s outstanding performance in the position.
The African National Congress (ANC) has named its regional leader and former mayor Dada Morero as its candidate for the city’s top office after Gwamanda’s resignation on Tuesday.
Gwamanda tendered his resignation following mounting calls from political parties and civil society organisations for his removal from the mayoral seat.

Hendricks said despite Gwamanda’s resignation, he will be remembered as one of Joburg’s most hard- working leaders.
"SALGA (South African Local Government Association] gave them the best municipality in Gauteng title. He had two clean audits all in one year. He built three power stations, he’s commissioning the fourth one.
He said Gwamanda is prepared to occupy a position in the mayoral committee.
"We will now be redeployed in another position in the mayoral committee. Most probably the position that we always occupied in the good olden days but we wish the new mayor that the AN proposes all the best."
