Who is Mia Le Roux? 7 fun facts about the new Miss South Africa

In case you missed it, Mia Le Roux was crowned the new Miss South Africa over the weekend.  

Only in her first week and the 29-year-old is already breaking barriers.

Get to know the new queen with these seven fun facts: 

1. She was born in Sasolburg in the Free State but was raised in Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape.
2. She is a model and marketing manager for a start-up company by profession.
3. She has always had a passion for beauty pageants, with several titles under her belt including Miss Struisie and Miss Garden Route. She was in the top 5 of Miss Deaf South Africa.
4. She is studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing at the University of South Africa. 
5. She is the first Miss SA contestant who is hearing impaired. She was diagnosed with profound hearing loss when she was a year old, and relies on a cochlear implant. 
6. She is a big foodie and loves animals. 
7. Among her role models are former Miss South Africa winners Shudufhadzo Musida and Zozibini Tunzi.
