CAPE TOWN - A man is expected to appear in court on Monday in connection with the murder of a five-year-old boy in Bishop Lavis.

Xavier Mitchell was stabbed to death last week.

The child was in the care of his nanny when tragedy struck.

Following the attack, police arrested a man in his forties, who is believed to be mentally-challenged.

Family, friends and community members gathered in the area for a memorial service on Sunday.

The Bishop Lavis Community Policing Forum's Graham Lindhorst: "There's a petition being drawn up to ensure that justice will prevail for Xavier and that he doesn't get bail at all. The community is in pain, they are really hurt by what has happened but it has united the community and they are standing together for justice for Xavier."
