CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Provincial Community Police Board has called on communities to reflect on violence against women.
The community policing body said women in the province continue to be victims of gender-based violence at the hands of their loved ones.
This comes after the country celebrated Women's Day on Friday, paying tribute to more than 20,000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women.
The community policing body said women are likely to be killed by their partners.
According to the United Nations (UN), at least over 2,000 women murdered between 2017 and 2023 die in the hands of their partners.
The policing body said Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, and Mbwekweni in Paarl remain hotspots for gender-based violence in Western Cape.
It has encouraged women to come forward and report any kind of abuse to authorities to clamp down on the scourge.
