Eskom reduces diesel spend by almost R10 billion

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom said that it has reduced its hefty diesel spend by almost R10 billion in the past five months.
This is a massive drop in its diesel expenditure compared to the same period last year.
Eskom's bill to power the open-cycle gas turbines has skyrocketed over the past few years , as the power utility tries to bridge the generation gap.
Eskom Spokesperson Daphne Mokwena said that Eskom's operation efficiency has also improved.
"Eskom’s operational efficiency continues to surpass its winter assumptions, with current unplanned outages averaging between 9 800MW and 12 400mw since 01 april 2024 – the start of eskom’s financial year 2025. today’s figure is at 10 757MW and is still significantly lower than the winter 2024 forecast."
