CAPE TOWN - As the country commemorates Women's Day, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says women are bucking the trend in sectors men previously dominated.
Winde brought this up after visiting several businesses that women own and manage in the south of Cape Town this week.
The premier said women in the Western Cape have set the bar high.
They include Nikki Harding who owns the Backyard Café in Bergvliet.
Winde said the new mom's drive to expand her business inspired him.
"Nicky Harding started her company way back in 2012 but has pulled on a chef partner - another woman who really enables their own and other businesses to thrive."
Winde also met with Chloe Dicks, owner of Holland Design and Letters in Grassy Park.
"This vibrant young woman taught herself coding and started her business which specialises in designing everything from brochures, pamphlets, and menus to offering training courses."
Winde said women have made a remarkable contribution to the country.
