Women in Wine is the first wine-producing company in South Africa owned, controlled, and managed by females.

In 2006, 20 women with backgrounds in the wine industry came together to establish Women in Wine.

Their dream was to give women, especially farmworkers and their families, a share in the wine industry.

Farmer says that they realized too few women were participating economically in the wine industry and wanted to ensure their contributions were recognized.

She says that female farmworkers form part of their shareholders.

So far, their label has produced six wines: Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz, Pinotage Rose, and Chardonnay Chenin Blanc. 

Their wines are globally recognised, but it was not always an easy journey.
