JOHANNESBURG - The TV and film fraternity in South Africa has expressed shock and a great loss for the industry following the passing of Connie Chiume

The 72-year-old passed away at a Johannesburg hospital on Tuesday afternoon following a medical procedure.

With a career spanning more than 50 years, the multi-award-winning actress starred in a number of local shows including Yizo Yizo, Rhythm City, and most recently, Gomora.

The Welkom-born actress also starred in Marvel's Black Panther.

Her friend and fellow veteran actress, Abigail Kubeka, said her passing had left her stunned and speechless.

"I just don’t know what to say. You know, when I got the message, I was just coming from town. Zotho told me and I said, ‘Gone? Where to? Why?’. I collected myself and said ‘Oh, by the way, passed on, okay. Zotho, what happened?' You just don't know what to say."
