JOHANNESBURG - Political party Al Jama-ah says Joburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda has enough accolades under his belt to save his job as the City of Joburg's first citizen.

Gwamanda is facing the chop as Joburg Mayor amid concerns about poor service delivery and the city’s financial crisis.

The African National Congress (ANC) and ActionSA are yet to finalise talks that could see the keys to the city change hands yet again.

While Gwamanda was tipped to resign this week, Al-Jama-ah leader Ganief Hendricks says the mayor will stay put for now.

“Our argument is quite clear; the mayor got an award from SALGA [South African Local Government Association] for being the best-run municipality in Gauteng. The mayor, in just one year, got two clean audits without finding in some entities of the city. The mayor has a best of breed team from nine political parties that sits on his mayoral committee that assists him to get these achievements.”
