CAPE TOWN – With just over a month since their appointment - The Presidency says new Cabinet ministers are working well together despite their diverse political backgrounds.

Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says President Cyril Ramaphosa is satisfied with the level of energy, enthusiasm and commitment in the execution of their duties.

More importantly, Magwenya said, there’s a sense of unity among them.

Ministers appointed from seven of the 10 political parties that make up the Government of National Unity (GNU) - serve in Ramaphosa’s cabinet.

As the Cabinet met again on Wednesday, Magwenya addressed the media for the first time since the formation of the GNU.

He says new ministers are cooperating well to carry out the priorities outlined in Ramaphosa’s Opening of Parliament Address.

“We’ve had a good start to the seventh administration characterised by great deal of energy, commitment and focus to the task at hand and that’s to take the country forward.”

Magwenya said there’s also a great deal of collaboration across departments on cross-cutting issues.

“There shouldn’t be any confusion in terms of roles and responsibilities as they are located and guided by the law.”

Magwenya says The Presidency doesn’t foresee tensions among ministers because each of their duties are clearly outlined.
