CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Community Safety and Police Oversight MEC Anroux Marais has lauded police for a successful operation in Khayelitsha where officers were deployed after receiving information about a planned cash-in-transit heist.
As the team approached the suspects, the gunmen open fire, and police retaliated.

Eight suspected criminals were killed in the shootout and five others were arrested
Marais has also welcomed the confiscation of high-calibre weapons.
"I commend the police on an excellently planned and executed operation in Khayelitsha. The arms and ammunition confiscated will no longer be used to terrorise our people.
“The suspects arrested will be able to provide further information on the origin and planned use of the confiscated weapons and ammunition."
